When playing I use the pick between the first and secon finger and pick with the 3rd, 4th and 5th as and when needed ( hybrid picking I thinks called )but do at time anchor. if anyones interested. It annoys a guitarist I play with becaiuse he is a shredder and hates my style, but it works for me.
