Last November at 52 I decided to buy a guitar. I got a cheap beginners. It broke so I went out and got nice Strat with a small Fender tube amp. I am now 53 and still practicing. I think it's been 7 months. I have learn several chords. And, I have spent a little money on some pedals, though I don't use them as often. I like blues, classic rock, bolero, and alternative. I try to practice 30 minutes a day. Guess my question is, has anyone here started playing in their 50's and now able to play???

Sure I don't see any reason why you couldn't learn. Welcome to the boards BTW. :)

Welcome sir, i started at sixteen, but i've had breaks of more than ten years when I haven't played.
Guitar is difficult - knowing what to play is half the battle

A minor blues scale is : A.C.D.D#.E.G

I think Carlos Santana is in his mid seventies - inspires me...

Welcome avadhuta!

I'm also 53. I started back in 1968. I haven't been playing full-time over all those years though, so there's people on this site that can play me into the ground. Don't be shy - go for it. We can't all be wealthy famous stars, but we all enjoy what we do.

Welcome to GT... As for being able to learn to play if you start when you are older... Well I'm still waiting to find that out for myself...lol I'm a beginner as well and in my uhm... 30's.. lol

But i'm sure having a blast in the process...
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.
