Power handling. One speaker that can cope with the entire output of a 100 Watt amp is probably not very efficient, so you would waste a lot of the power. A 4x12" with speakers rated at 30 Watts each would produce a higher SPL for the same power.

There's also sound spread to consider. A single speaker in an open-back cab will distribute sound quite evenly. Multi-speaker cabs tend to focus the sound into a 'beam' from the front of the cab. Closed-back cabs increase this effect, because there is no sound from the rear of the cab.

What do you mean by "better"? Also consider that two 50 Watt amps and two speakers will cost almost twice as much as one 100 Watt amp and one speaker.

erm i put better in speach marks because im not entirly sure what better would be, i guess i meen better efficiency like you mentioned before, and i not talking about two seperate 50 watts amp i menn a lingle 2 speaker combo driven by a preamp into a 50watt power amp for each speaker which is considerably cheaper than 2 sperate 50 watt amps
would the 100w combo projects further and be louder than the twin 50w combo?

 Hello?
"2 speaker combo" = an amplifier packaged in the same cabinet as 2 speakers.
"a 50watt power amp for each speaker" = 2 speakers, so 2 power amps.

Use the Search button at the top of the page. There are a lot of factors in what makes a system loud, and they have all been covered in detail many times before.

Did not see it mentioned but doesn't chorus sound better with 2 speakers instead of 1?

This could be another "pro"

You can also mix and match different speakers. One speaker coulde be made for highs and the other for lows.
