iv been playing over 13yrs and iv accomplished alot in that time.i took some lessons and discovered alot about the instument on my own as well.
one thing however ,has managed to get by me,when ur writing a riff,how do u determin what the time signature is going to be? any help one this would be greatly appreciated.

Err, the riff or the song it's going in will determine the time signature. Or do you mean, how can you tell what the time signature is for a given riff? Well, either record it and count the beats, or get someone else to count them while you play it.

I use a drum machine on a Digitech artist processor - i can speed up or slow down the drumbeats and choose the drumbeat - which is comfortable with the riff
