whats the differance between a parallel and series effects loop?

what are the items? pre amp, power amp etc? and what order whould they go in?

well i didn't really have to name which one's what cause you don't need a preamp for an effects loop. it could just be all effects and effects can go in any order.

sorry maybe i didnt make it entirly clear what i ment, im talking about the effects loop bit in a amplifier and i have read that using effects in it can bypass the pre amp section so i was trying to work out how it would do that in a parrelel effects loop, because im assuming that in a series it would bypass the preamp and just go before or after the pre amp section
