It varies from singer to singer - some people's vocal chords just seem to be more resilient than others', I suppose. Mark Hunter from Chimaira has been screaming his head off for almost a decade now, but his clean pipes are still as good as ever. Matt Heafy from Trivium, on the other hand, has only recorded 3 CDs' worth of music and his voice is already starting to suffer. I had a listen to Trivium's cover of "Master of Puppets" the other day, and he sounded like a Marlboro veteran.
