The 9/11 means slide from the 9th fret to the 11 fret.

11h12 means hammer on. Pick the note on the 11th fret and hammer on the 12th.

11p9p7 means pull offs. Pick the note on the 11th fret, pull off to the 9th, then pull off to the 7th fret. All in a fluid motion.
Check out my band:

'/' means slide..inthis case, from the 9th fret slide up to the 11th fret... 'p'means pull off...which is the reverse of hammer on...as u strike 11th fret, u let go while having another finger on the 9th fret...hope this helps...

ok for example...as u strike the 9th fret, immediately with ur other finger, tap and hold fret 11...thats a hammer on...'h'...a pull off is the reverse...u put both fingers on frets 11 and 9...when u strike fret 11, immediately pull of that finger whilst having ur other finger on fret 9...

playing cover songs is probably a good way to start off...as well as picking up some magazines and videos...of course there's theoption of taking up guitar lessons...
