hello to everyone--

i was hoping someone here could give me some ideas on changing the pickups in my guitar. i have a les paul special, double cut with p-90's.

i have looked at some other guitar and decided that what i really want to do is custimize what i have a little but. it's a gorgeous guitar, the wood and the color and the finish all look so good i keep the pickguard off it.

what i would like to do is put one of the casino dogear style chrome pickup's in for my solo pickup and a humbucker for the rhythm pickup. does anyone know where i can get a humbucker that will fit in the p-90 slot? i know i've seen them but i can't seem to find one lately.

P-90's are P-90's and Humbuckers are Humbuckers... they're different sizes because they're different pickups.

I see what you want to do... It's going to be a major project. Especially if you haven't done any guitar luthier work. You will have to route out the position that you want to fit the Humbucker... and probably do some routing to accomodate the dog ears... I suggest taking it into a guitar shop that has a tech or a luthier and asking these questions. It's difficult to say how much work would be involved without seeing the specific pickups you have and the pickups you want to install... among a lot of other variables. Good Luck

you can get p90 pickups that are basically humbuckers in the p90 housing. EMG pickups are kinda sterile and for metal so you probably don't want them but here's a link to their site were there's an example of the kind of stuff you can get. These are active pickups so i don't think you'll want them but at least you know they exist...

thanks for both of your help(s)

i think that was the pickup i looked at so thats a good starting point, id like to hear the pickup again though.

i was aware that the dogear pickup would need some routing work, not something i planned on donig by myself though. i actually have the tools but am way to afraid to do it myself since i havent done any modifications that serious before.

im thinking now about trying to at least find some vintage p-90's... those things just scream.

peace off!
