satch trick
Hi guys, was hoping someone could help me with a problem. i'm trying to find out how satch plays that piece in cool #9 with the palm mute down the neck and some bunch of notes up the other end of the neck. can anyone tell me if its a set group of notes, a pattern an arpeggio group or just a random bunch of notes as it looks like on the dvd. thanks

Have you looked up tabs for Cool #9? I doubt if you'll find someone on the board who knows exactly what bit and how to play it, so I suspect finding a tab would be more useful.....

but back on topic. could you elaborate? like, let me try to get this strait. so he does a pick scrape or palm slide with his right hand down the neck while doing some crazy lick with his left going up the neck?

I think he might be talking about the legato that Satch does... When he mutes the strings with his right hand by grabbing around the neck up by the 3rd fret or so... then does some legato licks with his left hand... I think that's what he's talking about.... could be wrong though...

The van is PRS's creation. Gotta give credit where credit is due and yeah he mutes at the nut with his right hand and does some ho/po/slide legato stuff with his left. Not an easy task but learnable. I bet Akira could do it.

I found it kinda easy....I tried it and got some sweet legato stuff going. My left hand isn't as crazy fast and flexy as satriani's of course... If you've done a bit of tapping before it should be alright.
I saw him do it when I watched The Mystical Potato Head Groove thing on the E3 dvd. Vai does it a little bit as well.
