Technical Question About Wiring

Ok so this isnt quite guitar related but i want to make Drum triggers out of remo practice pads http://maggotcontrol.com/?p=26 this is how im doing it but this person uses an RCA Jack and i wanted to know if it would make a difference If I Used a TRS jack What do you think?

I think he used RCA jacks because the plug doesn't need much depth. A 1/4" TRS jack will need an inch or more behind the panel it is mounted on. If you absolutely insist on using 1/4" jacks, you will probably have to mount them on some kind of L-shaped bracket so that the plug lies parallel with the backplate instead of plugging in perpendicular to the surface.
