I read/heard somehwere that in writing there are no new stories. Just different ways of telling the same ones.

I would like to test a theory on songs.

I'll start with a simple chord progression, song name and group.

Next person takes the same chord progression and lists a different song, group etc.

*** The form has to stay relativley the same. 7ths, 9ths, sus's etc are OK. LIMIT actual chord changes. Example--Changing a C major to a C minor. This is OK if , and only if, it is a temporary chord change but not if it takes the key and changes the song.***

Here goes,

Easy Song repeating pattern.

G B9 C A G D G Verse/Solo

Bm Em Bridge

"Satisfied" Ian Moore

I think when describing chord progressions like that, instead of using the actual chords, describe them as numbers eg:

II - V - I - IV

I - V - VI - IV

etc.

The first one could be Dminor7 - G7 - Cmajor7 - Fmajor7

the second could be: Gmajor - Dmajor - Eminor7 - Cmajor
Miracle Blade 4: Gibs on touch.

I may have been too broad in what I was trying to get at.

By the way, Julian, thanks for the break down of roman numerals.

What I am trying to get at is this--

Ramble on -- Led Zep main chords E D A

next person would find a song they know utilizing the sames chord progression

Black -- Pearl Jam E D A

Next person --

Next person --

If I understand correctly, do you mean songs that sound different but have similar chord progressions?

Like for example D-C-G

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Your Time is Gonna Come - Led Zeppelin
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns n Roses

Now we're cooking with Crisco :D

This is exactly what I am trying to get at. But would like to keep it one post per person so it allows others to think of different songs etc.

Variations can and will occur but try to keep the progresion as basic and straight forward as possible.
