The Thick E string is longer than the Thin E string.

I have the other 4 alligned in a straight line but they don't have to be in a straight line.

The bridge shown in the Photo is a les paul type - it's string length adjustment is done by turning the slotted screw at he back of the bridge.
OR if it's a stratocaster type bridge the length adjusment is a philips screw at the back of the bridge.
Turning these screws will alter the tension of the string, so it's a good idea to slacken the strings at the machine heads before adjusting.
Some guitarists can set them up by ear, but I always need a tuner - further back in this thread, is an explanation of how to use the tuner - by playing an open string and then playing the same note an octave higher on the 12th fret

If you have no ' slant ' in your bridge - when you do sort it - it should play like a dream

Okedoke, the turny things are allen scews and there should be two on each string saddle and your right, these adjust the string height ( action ).

On the back of the bridge is six Philips screws ( one for each string ) - turning these will bring the saddle backwards or forwards, altering the string length ( intonation). the six screws are surrounded by springs, between the back of the bridge and the saddles

i am trying to play Phantom Planet - California right now, and I can play this part just using notes:

e|----7--9--7--9-----7--9--7--9-----7--9--7--9--11--7--
B|--9--------------9--------------9--------------------
G|-----------------------------------------------------
D|-----------------------------------------------------
A|-----------------------------------------------------
E|-----------------------------------------------------

but my problem is how would I strum this, and would I strum all the chords. I tried strumming every chord but it sounds REALLY bad because the E,A,and D strings seem to take over all the sound(they are louder) and strumming it doesn't sound good because it sounds like a mess, when i try and play the next chord(technically its a note) it hasn't really finished the last one and they just run together and sound as if I were just strumming like crazy or retarded..

I think all you guys are missing the point here. What he is descibing in my opinion has nothing to do with his set up. And with his limited experience (from what I can tell)....he shouldn't be messing with the intonation at all, he will only wind up bringing it in to a respectable shop and pay to have it set up when he's done messin with all the screws.......

Now , to what I think is the problem he is describing......

See the tab he posted.....it's notes for a single string "melody", kinda like playing "Smoke on the Water" with just notes, one pick at a time. What he is trying to do is strum this (all 6 strings) with just one finger on a string/fret.....

Ryan, this tab is not for strumming, they are notes for picking only, you need to find the "CHORDS" for that song if you want to "strum" it using all the strings :)

anybody agree with this??
