There really isn't much difference in the prices... if you sit back and look at it... The one main difference is probably that less manufacturers make acoustic instruments because they are, in fact, harder to make. So there for you have less competition within the market. You can still find cheap acoustics... the quality of them will equal the quality of a cheap electric... A nice acoustic will equal the price of an equally nice electric... in most cases... The acoustic brands... Taylor and Martin... would be considered the Paul Reed Smiths of the Acoustic industry... the Gibson and Fender Acoustics would be... well.... the Gibson and Fenders.... The Takamine, Ibanez, Ovation would be like the Ibanez, ESP/LTD, Jackson electrics... then you hae the Epiphone, Squire, Yamaha (they do make high end models) would be the lower end model acoustics... So there really isn't much difference in price so much... but rather the amount of manufacturers and models you have to choose from... There are, in general, more high end acoustics than electrics... making it seem like they're more expensive...
