Why do you need to know what genre to play? Just play the music you like, and make up your own material. If it doesn't sound like anything else, you've created your own genre. My band has its own genre. We call it fish-jesus-lamp-fan-gamecube or something like that.

Agreed. If you don't label yourselves with a genre, you may find that your band can fit in with other musicians from a wide variety of music scenes.

Well then, I would say "rock." It's so vague it works for everything.

Yeah, either that or "Alternative". Not "Indie", though, because that has connotations of manufactured pop-rock bands, and I'm assuming you're not one of those!

That, to me, is clever. Like I said, my band doesn't really sound like any other music we know of, so I guess we have created our own genre.

alot of times you have to play according to SOME kindof genre...thats how you build a fanbase. no one wants to love a band that only has a few songs that actually "apply" to them.

I think it is good to do differnt stuff, you will reach more people that way. There will always be some one that thanks you for playing something that turned out to be special to them. Besides who wants to be in a box. U know what they say about playing out of the box. Maybe there's more than one applacation for that statement. Hey play what U play best and keep them dancin and drinkin the club owners will love the business U bring. ;) RTO
