Me and the misses went to see Mamma Mia last night. It is a story based round a bunch of ABBA songs and being a child of the 70s I figured, yep, OK lets check it out !
(I didn't take much persuading as ABBA have always been one of my guilty pleasures)

Man it was fantastic !!

Really well done and well worth the $55 bucks a pop for tickets. If you have a chance, forget your preconceptions and treat your self to a really good night out ! Not many guitar solos but eh it was still great.

I'm probably one of the few Abba fans around here. Excellent songwriters and really well produced albums.
Never went to see that show tho cause the tv commercials made it look really cheesy.

That is exactly why I didn't go to see it in London ! However, I went along to the Hancher here in Iowa City (less choice when it comes to a night out) and it was GREAT !!

Preconceptions blown out of the water !

I spotted only one dropped note in the entire performance (a piano) which also told me it was un-autotuned and really being done live !

Great songmanship and very well performed.

Yes it was just fluff but what the hell I enjoyed it !

I've been to see Mamma Mia, and it was quite good... but nowhere near as good as an ABBA tribute band show!

Dispite Abba's massive success i still think they're under-rated...took me 23 years to figure it out though!

ABBA song structure is as deceptive as Joni Mitchell's singing. They sound easy until you try it yourself. Seriously formulaic, and yet they work so well! I'm not the least bit reticent about loving ABBA tunes.

The two guys used to take songwriting really serious. Almost like a job.
Start at 9 a.m. and work through until 2 pm. every day.
What amazes me is they could still keep doing it even after they'd gotten divorced.

And let me throw out for the record how absolutely phenomenal Joni Mitchell is. "Rose in the Garden" is an absolutely incredible vocal job.

I like a few ABBA tracks here and there. I'm not really into them enough to say I'm a fan, but the music isn't always too bad. I originally got into them through a cover of Summernight City that Therion had done. Granted I like the cover more than the original, for what I assume are obvious reasons, but the original has my respect.

One song that blew me away was "The Day Before You Came"
A totally deceptive song that sounds as if it's just a bunch of lyrics rambling on about a day in the life of a girl. The you realize about halfway through the song that that's the point of it. A girl going through her day just rambling on about a relationship... and then towards the end you really get it and realize how complex the song really is.

"Gold" is so freakin' amazing. I've GOT to throw that out there.

I wish I could write a pop melody this well!
