stuck in a rut any advice ?

hey all i'm lookin for some advise on scales and lead techniques i have recently been workin on alot of scales to try to work on my lead techniques but just not gettin very far usually a rythm man but wanting get expand my knowledge and exertise! i try to play all kinds and variety of music just for this simple fact i am baisclly self taught and not to bad i think but am very dumb when it comes to some of the techniques i hear people speak of but always willin' to learn new tricks to improve!
