I guess it was the fact that it portrayed a world in which the forces of nature have been almost completely eradicated in favour of industry and commerce. It scared me in that it depicted such a soulless human condition, and it depressed me in that it reminded me so strongly of the present. For a while, it made me feel as though there was no hope for our society. Hell, I still can't watch an advertisement without being reminded of Blade Runner. Basically, I think that movie messed me up a bit - but, for all that, it's a brilliantly-made film.
