What's up guys my name is Shawn.I am new at this website just thought i would try to get some tips on coming up with new riffs anyone got any ideas?

we can help with that.
check the lessons, GREAT stuff in there. course alot of it now is only viewable if you're a high bandwith person, which i would recommend. 5 bucks a month is worth it for the lessons and community round here. we're basically an elite group of humans and immortals. yeah. but if you're not ready for the high bandwith, hey, thats cool. if you post a good question in the right section of the forum, you should get answers withen the day. or hour if your lucky. such as this post, which has been done right after you posted it. again, elite group of humans and immortals.

Welcome to GT! I'm also primarily a rythm guitarist. There are plenty of lessons here to help you with different techniques and styles. Which in turn, will more than likely help with your creativity. I would also suggest studying what the rythm guitars are doing in whatever genra you're into, and adapt it to your own style of playing.

I saw Kerri King of Slayer give a clinic awhile back and he said his approch to coming up with riffs is taking riffs from other songs and just simply change them up a bit to create a new riff. ;)
