That reminds me of a local newsclip I saw. They interviewed a schoolgirl who participated in a walkout. She said, "my parents are here illegally, but they're not criminals." That made me smile.

As for the legislations, I disagree with making it a felony. Then what, are we going to put them all in jail and foot the bill for that too? In the Senate bill the other stuff is just for show. $1000 fine and back taxes: yeah right, they'll never get that money. Learn English: nice touch, but again won't happen. The parts from either bill that will work (in my opinion) are those that make life here less desirable for them to come here to begin with, by fining employers who hire illegals, and cutting off all Federal and State programs that aid if you don't have documentation, short of life threatening emergency room care. And of course the extra border patrol couldn't hurt. I'm not sure about the fence. It might work for certain high traffic areas as long as they don't just end up digging a tunnel under it.
