Generally Tascam make nice kit, I kicks the crap out of the Boss one though it is not as nice as a D1200. I know Tascam are owned by a company called TEAC and Im pretty sure they are not owned by korg.

I started doing multitrack recording on a Tascam 424 mk III portastudio (Which PRSplaya is currently selling at a very reasonable price). That would also not be a bad place to start.
