I'm not a huge fan of shredders in general, but I've received so much exposure to them and their work, that I haven't been able to help but listen to them and form an opinion on some of them. Who's your favourite "super-shredder" (ie. people like Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Michael Angelo Batio etc.)?

My personal favourite is Joe Satriani (and the guys from Dragonforce are kinda cool, as well  ).

- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Joe Satriani
Paul Gilbert
Steve Vai
John Petrucci
Jason Becker
Marty Friedman
Michael Romeo
Greg Howe
Tony MacAlpine

Yeah, that's probably my favorite shredders. I'd put Shawn Lane on there, but, honestly, I just don't see the appeal.

My band is better than yours...

If you consider Petrucci a shredder, I'd definately give him my vote and if you don't agree, watch this.

 That was nice, much better than expected. Marty Friedman would've done a better job :p , but it was very good overall.

Pshh...ah you. *love tap to the shoulder*
Friedman you have done something ethnic over it probably. I have his cd 'scenes'. It's very good, but I think it kinda all sounds the same.

I think that Jason was the god on the electric guitar!
But he is not playing any more so my favorite guitar player is CHRIS IMPELLITTERI.

Why does anyone said something about him?

Well, he's not that well known...in fact, all I know of him is his version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Great player, though.

I think that sometimes it is better to play something easier with a beautifull melody, than a billion tones with no meaning.

For example listen to Santana,Eric Clapton,Jimmy page,Tomy Iomy....

But stil I listen to some shreders who can combine the two of the particular playing skills.
That's what i call perfect shreding.
Jason Becker one's played like this and then he got immobile.:(

Patty Larkin!!! Check it out. There are girl shredders in existence, they just don't get much promotion... I guess it's not marketable or ladylike to shred on guitar, soooo...

Yeah, what happened to Jason Becker was really sad.....he did not reach his full potential because of that disease.

If he can just play today, He MIGHT be the neoclassical shred king today!
