I confess that it's hard for me to think outside the "Fender/Gibson" box.

Is Schecter a good alternative to either/or? I've seen a few comments here and there on this site and elsewhere.

I was looking online at a "S-1 Elite" (I believe it's called)... and had the queer notion of upgrading the humbuckers to a "Nailbomb" (in the bridge) and an "Abraxas" (in the neck), both by Bare Knuckle Pickups.

I have a Shecter c1 classic, but have not played a Gibson, so I can't tell you if its better. But they are great guitars for the price. I've played some lower end Shecters and even then they play very well and sound great. When it comes down to the line, go to a Guitar Center and try some stuff your looking at out.

dunno too much about Schecter, but from what i have seen and played, I like them. My mate had a C1+ which was gorgeous (apart from the fact that it had 24 frets), the only weak aspect was the pickups...Duncan Designed!

I can vouch for the Nailbomb tho...I have one in my Les Paul and it is amazing...I have another Bare Knuckle pickup (Warpig) in another guitar and that too is incredible...I'd put them in all of my guitars if I still lived in the Uk (so so so hard to get hold of Barekunckle out here).

They are awesome pickups.

I know of a place in the Los Angeles area where Bare Knuckles can be had. That's my home town (in some cases, my ancestral land)... and I go there often... for my current home (Sin City) is not far.
