Well, I finally got me a casual job, and will shortly be selling my bass - and, as a result, I may shortly have enough money for some new gear! At the moment, I've got two acoustic guitars, one electric, an effects pedal and an amp. The acoustics are a Yamaha and a Valencia respectively, and I'm happy with both of those; the effects pedal is a Digitech RP80, which I'm loving to death. I can't say the same for my other gear, though. The electric is a cheap little Aslin Dane SC with a neck that can't stay put for two hours; and the amp is a 15-watt Samick bass amp. If I'm going to get some new gear, I'll be replacing one of those two with something better; the question is, which? Should I get a new guitar or a new amp?

Well since your playing a guitar through a bass amp, I would get a guitar amp first.

Would you recommend any particular amp (in the 20-60 watt range)?

Look at the Line 6 Spider II series. You would probably be alright with the 30 watt. You could always splurge on the 112 though. ;)
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song. :rolleyes:

Look at Hughes & Kettner, they are a little pricey though. I would go with a tube amp for sure instead of solid state also look for Celestion brand speakers they are good. pretty much a 20w tube will be better than a 100w solid state.

I have a feeling that any tube amp may be out of your price range...although nice...a tube amp (any tube amp) will cost way more than a Spider II 30watt...or even more than the 75watt 1x12.

I'd go with a Line 6 Spider II...comfortably the best amps in their price range

The Line 6 Spider II seems to be the most popular choice. The 112 model goes for about A$700 in stores... I'll consider it, but in the meantime, has anybody played a Behringer GM212, by any chance? I saw one in Trading Post for $300, and it's 120 watts, as opposed to the Spider's 75 watts - what do you think?

no. i would go with the Spider. Ive heard that Behringer aren't very good quality.

I used to have a Behringer Blue Devil 112...it was nice...but nowhere near as good as a SpiderII...

I assure you that whatever you pay for a Line 6 Spider II is money well spent.

I picked up a VOX AD30VT for about $230US. So far I love it! I would take a look at them for sure.

they're pretty sweet...and i like the blue illuminating thingy on the panel...im so in love with mine right now...and they are loud...

what H and K you got Jeff?

Personally, the only H and K I would shell out for is a Triamp or any full tube amp of theres...their solid state amps are nice...but not worth the price...come to think of it, their tube amps are nice aswell, but hellish expensive...I played an Ibanez Thermion (new full tube stack) up against and H&K Trilogy (Chinese Triamp ) and a Warp-X (tube Warp) and the Ibanez was a whole lot better than both of them...

and just to add to a few of the other comments...

It ought to be the Spider, don't worry. :D

I've never played on one, and probably never will, but I thought that the Hughes and Kettner Alex Lifeson signiature amp looked pretty cool.
