i have several things that may help with your power chord difficulties. try looking up some stuff from chimera or iron maiden. both these guys use all kinds of power chords. also try tuning to drop D. if you do this you can experiment with power chords just by baring the first two strings. (biggest two). i also found that practicing sliding from one power chord to another in quick succession helps when u start developing ur own licks
