I'm sure this has been covered in the past, but I'm soon going to be getting an adaptor to plug my guitar into my computer and I'm wondering what are some suggestions people have for a free program I can download, or maybe there is one already on the computer I could use for recording and editing. All I want is to be able to record myself playing, preferrably have multiple tracks for overdubbing and be able to copy/move pieces of the music, but that isn't necessary stuff only stuff I want. Any advice?

yeh, i use audacity and krystal. but im saving up for either cubase or cakewalke.
krystal is alot better than audacity in alot of ways, but you can only export them as .wav files. no .mp3's. which can be annoying, but it has a much better sound quality.

You can get Cubasis (an older, lighter version of Cubase) for around $70 online.... get that if you want to be able to do everything a beginner could imagine. For the money it is seriously good value.
As far as free stuff goes, check out www.download.com and do a search for freeware in the media section, plenty there with user reviews to help you along the way. Speaking from experience though, I only started being able to make reasonable stuff once I got Cubasis... once you get the hang of it and you get the fuinds together, you will find Cubase SX easy to use
