Well, looks like Jimi wins the old "Hendrix vs. Van Halen" battle :p

So, umm - who voted for Buckethead? :D
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Good work, man! :) I love Buckethead, he's got a lot of personality, but I didn't vote for him - Hendrix, Page, Beck, Gilmour and Van Halen have got the wood on him, IMHO.

Still disgusted that people insist on voting Kurt Cobain into a top 5 guitar player poll............... Dave Grohl is a better guitar player than Kurt Cobain... but he's not up their... probably because he didn't blow his head off...

The vote wasn't for BEST guitarist, it was for FAVOURITE guitarist. You can't say people are wrong for saying they like Kurt Cobain. Youcould say they're wrong if they thought he was one of the five BEST guitarist, which obviously he isn't, but favourite is a matter of opinion.

Yeah, I completely understand the difference between "favorite" and "best"... and they are both pure opinions... and my opinion remains the same... I guess i should have voted for Avril Lavigne because she can shred too... I like Nirvana, just not my favorite guitar music... there are much better that are more DESERVING.

I agree with acapella, but I am rather surprised that Kurt Cobain is as popular on GT as Eric Johnson and Slash.

If Avril Lavigne is one of your favourite guitarists, you would be justified in voting for her. Why are other bands more DESERVING? Just because they are better at guitar, which again is not what this poll is about? Since favourite is an opinion, you can't say that some bands deserve to be people's favourites more. You have no idea what criteria people use to decide on favourites, they could have very personal reasons that you know nothing about. It's different with "best", because there are definite criteria to decide on that, but "favourite" could have nothing to do with talent or ability.
