Just bought a Ibanez Gio series Guitar from a local Pawn Shop. Now ,I dont know exactly why I fell in love with it,but I did. I was thinking of dressin it up a bit..........new pickup's,Pearl pickguard, gold plated hardware.........and some custom paint.......of course done myself.
Just wanted some opinions and thoughts. I think it has potential,so you tell me..........Better left alone or what?

How about a picture of your guitar? What it looks like now sure would go a long way towards my opinion on the matter.

Its pretty much plain Jane tho i will admit! BLACK.....LOL......All Over. Black body, black pickguard, standard chrome Bridge, dual hummers in both neck and bridge...........I dont have nuttin to take a pic of it right now, otherwise I would.

I was thinking on the custom paint, maybe some candy purple over silver metal flake,I did that on my Brother's Helmet at one time and it looked freakin sweet...........Maybe thow in some whats called true fire.......Do a search under Mike Lavalle you will know what i mean...........its says true fire and it looks it too. I'll try to get a pic as soon as I can tho. Your Interest is greatly Appreciated.

Well if it's all black, I'd definitely do something with it. I wouldn't do the purple/metal flake/real fire thing though. It sounds tacky and horrible. But then, that's just me.

IMO, its all on you. if YOU like that guitar, then yes, i would put pick ups in it, and make it your own. IF you are a talented painter, and have experance i would paint it. but dont put some hack job that you are going to be able to scrape off with your finger nail. make shure you sand it down good, and use a quality pait, but it sounds like you have experance painting. but, only you know if this guitar is worth doing all this to. if you plan on keeping this guitar for many years then i would do all this. but if your going to sell it in a year i wouldnt bother.

Hey Thanx rockon91!

Wanna tell me where I might find that Pearl Pickguard? I emailed Ibanez but have gotten no reply from them as of yet.

What might you recommend for Pickups?

Any Paint idea's you might have are more than welcome too!

Thanx Again Guy's!

I always recommend the Dimarzio Tone Zone for the bridge position. Slapped one in my SG and it sings......it's a hot pickup, which I like. Great for Hard Rock and/or Metal. And I can get bluesy tones also by rolling back on the volume knob.
Check out my band:

Well, let's see...
In my opinion, the all-black has to go. It just screams "STOCK!!!" Definitely get some custom paint on there, I don't know what your style is but please don't keep the black.
Aside from that, everything's fair game depending on your style. You could swap the hardware if you want, I know I'd change the bridge that one looks pretty cheap. Then of course you could go into electronics, but I don't think that's what your asking about.
Ummmm aside from the paint and the bridge, I don't have any other advice just whatever you think looks good man.

Oh yeah, and I'd put in a pickguard too, but that's just me. Obviously which pickguard depends on the paint job you choose, and depending on that maybe you won't need one at all.

My first electric was an Ibanez GIO GAX70. It was red, very neck heavy, but easy on the wallet and easy to fix up. ;)
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

as far as pait goes, i personally think it would be cool to put stripes on it. like running with teh neck and pickups, and wraping around the back, back to the neck. maby metalic grey with black sripes. or candy apple red with back stripes..

just a though ;)
