Hello. I am writing because I wanted to write out a tapping solo, but I realized, I didn't know how to actually build one. My question is this. When I notice most tapping solos, exercises, ect, there is little structure to them in common, so how do I write a solo of my own that sounds actually good and not just me tapping the scales out?

one of the most important things any guitar player who is above begining to intermediate can do to improve themselves and work on coming up with riffs or solos is to record themselves and then play over it. even if its just a cheap boom box recording. a digitech jam man would be a good tool for this sort of thing and its the best way to help you figure out what to play.

nah, theres no specific structure... as with any music, its up to the individual. alot of tapping solos for rock is based on the pentatonic scale. as with most solos. think of tapping as just a way of making a normal solo more exciting.

you can also think of tapping as a way of making legados with wider spacings inbetween the notes. sometimes a tapping lick can span an entire octave, while a typical legato would probably do about half of it.

go here: http://www.guitarshredshow.com/ and go to the beginning of the tapping dwarfs thing... and eventually you should see something that says "print tablature" on the right. print all of em out. theyve got some sweet tapping licks in there. you should see the pentatonic theme going.

just try that out.

Thanks. I'll go check that site a bit and see if I can get a good solo written.

Do the Petrucci method. Right in the middle of a blinding fast climax, bust out some tapping to top the solo off, then either the solo down with some melodic licks, or a nice, fat WWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I am getting into classical guitar more and they created most tapping ideas, so I wanted to expanded my realm of capability into that.

I thought the Petrucci method was to stand perfectly still and kill all emotion with music. *Zing* But seriously, I'll try that.

I also used some of the cool exercises from this site to get better. I am still trying to tie in a little tapping for a good solo.

Thanks for all the comments too.
