just been in the local pawn shop and seen this fender stratocaster 1983-87 £160 with a hard case black with black pick guard
it has 2 single coils and a humbucker
floyd rose bridge i think
however it is quite damages, lots of dints, scrapes, chips, a large section of paint scraped off the back, bent flick switch, back bits missing off 2 or the tuners, wobbly nobs and there is some paint chipped off the head
the hard case is supposed to be in mint condition but i havent seen it yet
the neck and frets look ok
what do u think? is it worth the money and would it be restorable?

If that amount of money isn't much for you, go for it.

Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

hmm.. 160 pounds is like 320-ish american dollars right? so is it a japanese, mexican, or american strat? if it's japanese or american, then go for it! don't worry about the paint, it has no effect on the tone.

the knobs and switches could be replaced, depending on how bad they are, you can get a new switch for like $20, and if you need new pots to fix the wobbly knobs, they are about $4 each on stewmac.com as for the tuners, as long as they still work, I wouldn't worry about replacing them.

I suppose it depends on what you want the guitar for. if you want it because it sounds good, and gives you a tone you like, then get it. if you want it as something to hang on your wall and show off to say you have an 80's stratocaster, then you... should still get it because it's pretty cheap (as long as it's not mexican). so either way.. get it!

The only Strat that ever impressed me enough to get me to buy it was a '62 Re-issue Jap-Strat that I bought new in 1986. I had to sell it 5 years later to pay my rent, and I still miss it. I think trems suck a lot of the tone out of an otherwise good instrument, but for that price, you can't lose. Grab it with both hands! :)

get it! btw, a case is worthwhile having, anytime you want to throw the guitar into the back of the car, you'll wish you had gotten one.

I'd take it if its a Japanese...where abouts did you see it?
beat-up strats are cool man...I'd also take the case man...I doubt they would knock off more than about 20quid for the case anyway.
