Not quite. There are plenty of people that know about it. It's just not something that you can find as easily as on the radio or on television. It's something that has to be found rather than given. It's kind of a tense topic as it's easy to portray one's self as a hypocrite, especially since there are more than my own opinion on what makes metal "real metal." And yes, there are metal bands that can be found on television, I'm not going to say it's impossible for mainstream to include metal. And I'm not really even against the music in the main stream, so this isn't some stupid anti-mainstream talk. Just that there's far more to the scene than anything you'll find on tv since most of it doesn't market nearly as easily as say Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, In Flames, and Dimmu Borgir. Especially since they're willing to dumb their music down to help it market easier.
