Guitar Strings Change

I have a new acoustic guitar. How often should I change my guitar strings?

I read somewhere that the first strings should be changed after two months and then each year a new set.

My present strings set is also new, so how often should I change?

Is it like: the more often you play, the sooner you should change your strings and the less often, the longer you could keep'em?

Or the contrary?
