I usually play Fmajor as a barre chord like this with my 1st finger barring the 1st fret

-1-
-1-
-2-
-3-
-3-
-1-

you would only use Fmajor7 in songs that are in the key of Fmajor or Cmajor
I assume you are playing it like this:

-0-
-1-
-2-
-3-
---
---
Miracle Blade 4: Gibs on touch.

If you can play an Fmaj7 like that, just add an extra finger to the e string and make it this:

-1-
-1-
-2-
-3-
---
---

That's just a simplified F, and it shouldn't take you too long to get the hang of it. It will be hard at first, but keep at it.

Yes it is ok to playsongs and depending on certain songs its the right note to play. However other songs its not and so you should work on it.

i suggest just practicing the barred Fmajor. it takes some practice to master(never heard of anyone having trouble barring for more than a couple of weeks) but when you do you will become a more versitile guitarist.

To keep the 1st and 2nd string sounding like a thud, pull your elbow in toward your body. Hint from Steve Kaufman
