Ok, since space ace is too busy thinking up off-colour jokes, maintaining his band wars thread and attacking Christoph, I thought I would take up stratman's idea and have a battle of singers. Also, a local radio station in Toronto had a top 20 rock vocalists of all time countdown, and they picked Robert Plant as the all time greatest, with which I disagree, and they included really crappy singers, like Burton Cummings.

I thought that, as a little change to space ace's approach, everyone (within a certain period of time) can post their 3 favourite singers. This can be the pool from which we'll pick the best singer.

Here are my three (in no order):

1. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
2. Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
3. Janis Joplin

Ok, now everyone else, take it away. I'll stop after a while, when there are about twenty or so.

I hope this thread doesn't suck.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

Yeah, after we get about twenty, I'll put them all together, and they'll battle it out to the death. That's where space ace comes in.

And, remember, top 3. If you can, it would be nice if you reposted your top 3, stratman.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

since only 7 different people have posted on this subject, i think I'll wait and see if there's more interest in this thread, or else I'll just let it die...
... and that's all I have to say about that.

1 Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
2 Ronnie James Dio (solo/Black Sabbath)
3 Liam Gallagher (Oasis)
4 Ian Gillan (Deep Purple)
5 Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
6 Janis Joplin (solo)
7 B.B. King (solo)
8 Geddy Lee (Rush)
9 Freddie Mercury (Queen)
10 Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath)
11 Robert Plant (Led Zep)
12 Bon Scott (AC/DC)
13 David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat and Tears)
14 Stevie Ray Vaughan (solo)
15 Roger Waters (Pink Floyd)
16 Thom Yorke (Radiohead)

Alright, here's the final list. Note that I've removed some of the singers that you guys suggested, since I realized how long it would take if we used them all. (And Led Zeppelin - I didn't make a mistake by putting Liam Gallagher in instead of Rory - I just figured most hadn;t heard of him, and it just so happened I wanted to put in Liam).

We'll pit them against each other, two at a time, starting from the top of the list and we'll work our way down. According to my calculations, it'll take 5 rounds, with 15 separate matches.

So, let us begin:

Round #1, Match #1 -
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) vs. Ronnie James Dio (solo/Black Sabbath)
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Since only 7 of us seem to be interested in this thread, I'll say that 4 votes for any singer means an automatic win. I might change this rule based on any change of interest on this subject.
... and that's all I have to say about that.
