Eugene's Trick Bag:-
Apparently there is no commercially available recording of this due to the fact that Ry Cooder did not include it on any of the original sountrack albums.
In the film the original pitch is A minor.
It clocks around 160bpm.
Bars 9-15 feature classically inspired arpeggios. Although many guitarists would probably prefer to sweep pick this, Mr. Vai uses a combination of alternate picking with occasional hammer ons and pull offs.
At 150bpm. using strictly alternate picking are the bars 16-20 THE FAMOUS BIT..
Bars 21-22 sliding diatonic thirds and polyrythms created by the three against four feel, are typical Steve Via'sms.
Perhaps the most difficult/challenging bars are probably those of 23-24.
Bar 38 begins with A harmonic minor run, spanning almost 3 octaves.
The final bit - this commands some serious bending in bar 40 ending on top A.
For those who don't have 24 frets, well trouble is a head,
unless you play 13th, 16th & 17 frets with the fretting hand and perform the picking hand pinch harmonics at the 'virtual' frets of 25, 28 & 29 respectivley.
The top E in bar 39 can be bent up a tone from fret 22.
After all this, if you wan't to learn it or play what ever I have the full Tab.
