My ears are killing me after every band practice which hopefully doesnt result in loss of hearing. I bought some "HEAROS" which are earplugs that are supposed to make everything sound normal but they dont. It sounds weird and I sing so I need to know EXACTLY how I sound, WHat could i get that would work that protects my ears where I can hear perfectly normal?

Them construction headphone things. They're like pilot headsets without all the gear and electronics and stuff, but they cancel out like 90% noise. But you would be able to hear the rest of the band no problem.

There is no question that your ear pains result in hearing loss...ear plugs are essential, if you still want to be hearing in a few decades time.

look on the net for Elacin earplugs...I own a pair...they are made for musicians and actually attentuate the sound in your ear rather than block them...they work wonderfully....I carry mine in their case, on my wallet...and use them when watching bands and everything.

either that, or look into getting an ear nose and throat specialist to custom-make you a set of silicone earplugs molded to fit your ear...hellishly expensive (about 200 Pounds) but ultimately a bargain for your the benefits they provide

Get some plugs. You gotta protect your hearing.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Comment to everyone who reads this: I highly recommend custom made earplugs to anyone who plays in a band and/or likes going to concerts. They are not cheap, but your hearing is priceless.

Because of the physics of sound waves it is impossible to create ear plugs that attenuate all frequencies equally. High frequency sound waves are weaker than low frequency waves, so you will always have higher attentuation in the higher frequencies. Result = too much low end, no definition.
Also, you are used to hearing your own voice at a certain level, or even amplified. When you use earplugs you will hear your voice in a way that seems unnatural to you, no matter how good and expensive the earplugs are. You'll get used to it after a while.

If you simply can't get used to it, the only other option I can think of would be to get in ear monitors. That way you block the extreme high volume sound from the band, but get a nice feed through your earplugs at healthy levels.

I usually just use cheap foamies I get from a gun shop I live next to. I usually wind up at small punk rock dives where they're using full stacks inside a place where you could lean against one wall and spit on the opposing wall... so it's ridiculous volume to the point that you have to blindly wade through the chaos to keep it up. Not exactly a SRV type blues club where everything's supposed to be crystal clear....
