Hey, I'm trying to study as many rockabilly type guitarists as I can in order to improve my playing (ie Setzer during Stray Cats) and I was wondering if you guys had suggestions of some good ones. :)

thanx

You might try the James Burton or the old Scotty moore,
style.James used a Plec pick and fingers style, and Scotty,
used a thumb pick and fingers style.
Or some old Bill haley stuff his guitarest was into jazz,
before he went with bill haley & the comets

hi i just joined this forum so this is my first contribution to the group. As far as rockibilly goes i am familliar with setzer and would suggest to any and all who enjoy his style to check out chris cheny of the new band the living end. His style is undoutably influenced by that of the great setzer, however he puts it to a punk/rockibilly sound. I was fortunate enough to see them live in a small club in sf before they began to blow up, and even now they are still growing bigger.

Cliff Gallop, the original guitarist for Gene Vincent, is
probably one of the most creative and technically adept
players of the rockabilly genre. Many jazz influences in his playing but he rocks with the best of 'em. I also find that Don Lanier, who played with Buddy Knox and Jimmy Bowen as one of the Rhythm Orchids, is great to listen to for some basic (simple?) but highly effective rockabilly. Give a listen to "C'Mon Baby," "Party Doll," and "Rock Your Little Baby to Sleep" for some inspiration. Lastly, and this stuff may be hard to find, Carl Mann's guitarist on
"Mona Lisa" and other tracks just about says it all for over-the-top rockabilly. I think his name was Eddie Bush -- from the Memphis school of rockers. Cheers.

I didn't see Carl Perkins mentioned. He was one of the originals. His most famous song was "Blue Suede Shoes".
"My Willie only knows One Trick."
