hey folks, i have a few Q's. i just ordered a new epi les paul custom and i also ordered new gibson 490r and 498t pups to replaced the stock pups. do you thinks that with this pup combo in place, that the epi would sound close to the gibson les paul custom. i am relevantly new to the guitar seen. i wanted to buy a gibson custon originally but i thought a should wait untill i excel a little more with my skills. So i decided with epiphone. i was thinking of the les paul elitist but when i talked it over with the guy at the shop.he said that the reg les paul custom is really the same as the elitist ecept for the electronics and japanese built, minor things. so we suggested to replace the pups with original gibson pups and save money . i am from canada. elitist cost was 1500 candian selling price. reg les paul custom was 749 plua pups were 250. total was 999.saved 500 . i hope i made the right decision. i thinks it should sound good. so i would like to hear your peoples thoughts
thanks.

Well first off those are great pups but alot of people like the tone of the wood and the body of Gibson LP's more than the electronics. Most Gibson LP's have a mahogany body and neck, a rosewood fingerboard with a set neck instead of a bolt on type. The flamed maple tops and bottoms don't affect the tone that much. So if your guitar is built like above then you can get the classic LP tone out of it with almost any pups. If it's not then you are dealing in futility. You probably will get a good sound out of the Epi but it wont be quite as crisp and have the same kind of sustain a real Gibson will have, regardless of the type of pickup you put in it.

The epi lp customs have a set neck and mohagany body with a rosewood fretboard. so i guess this should sound pretty decent. thanks man for the info.
