I've seen Saw I, Saw II and Hostel. I've also seen many of the old Italian gore flicks which are the best if you're into gore. I'm not a gore fan myself, but I'm glad someone is finally doing away with fake injruy effects. If you're going to show a guy getting shot, make it look real. Anyways, Hostel was a two part movie 1st part is soft-core porn. 2nd part is gore. If you like either one, go see the movie because there's lots to be seen. No one in the theatre I was at puked, passed out or went psychotic. So I think that one women who did pass out probably was either hypoglycemic (sp?) or had forgotten to take her medication. Hostel starts off with a bunch of guys slumming it around Europe looking for sex. They stay in Hostels (thus the title) and have fun getting drunk and upsetting the locals. It takes a good while before there is actually any violence. Although when you finally do see it, it's original. The one guy out of the group of 3 gets taken to someplace. You don't get to see where he goes, but suddenly he's sitting in a dungeonous place like Saw I only more industrial. He's bound to a chair with a big collection of sharp objects around him. The guy that's come into the room wearing something like a guy handling sulfuric acid would wear, or maybe if he was slaughtering cows all day, that kind of outfit. So he picks up stuff and the guy is shaking and pisses himself. The madman picks up a drill and it's the first thing he uses on the guy! They go straight for the femur so to speak on this one. I won't say where the guy uses the drill but it's pretty much anywhere but what you'd expect. Then the guy is screaming for him to let him go and the guy says ok. But first he takes out a knife and cuts the guys achilles tendons. Nice way to go huh, then the guy trys to get up and walk!!!!! :eek: and of course his foot starts pulling away from his leg.... So in brief the rest of the movie goes along as each of the three guys gets pulled into the same place except for the last guy who escapes. This movie isn't scary so much as it is interesting. If you can get past the gore, there's some interesting thought process going on here from the writer and director. For those of you who got to see Saw I or II and wanted the bad guy to get it in the end, well Hostel takes the "bad guys" and annihlates them. It's almost funny at times.
