Play with the guitar really high and just get used to it there. Once your used to it lower it just ever so slightly daily and you will be able to play with it low and you'll be used to it. It all just takes time.

Half your time practicing should be standing up, so you get used to it.

Also, when sitting, I put my guitar on my left leg so it's a more comfortable transition when I stand.

When I practice while sitting the guitar tends to angle up ( Basicllly what I mean is I can see the fret board. I got that Homer Simpson belly. ) When I play standing the fret board is flat messing every thing up. So I either stand or kind of half sit on a tall Bar stool type chair, keeping the guitar in the same position all the time. I also find it easier if you learn standing up, playiing sitting down is no big deal.. Putting the guitar on the left leg is also a great Idea this was already mentioned...

The most common reason people can't play standing up is because they have their guitar too low so they can look cool. Just raise it up until it feels comfortable.

also, id recomend getting all of your techniques down (picking, etc) and have the entire song memorized before learning it standing. cuz in acuality, most the time your guitar is in a totally different position, so you need to relearn everything in this new position.
