Yeah, I think you should take some lessons. Although I have never taken lessons, so if you are really determined, you could try doing it on your own and just buy guitar books/movies. That's what I do. I also get on guitar message boards (like this one) and ask more experienced guitarists things that I need help with.

i started off by learning a picking song...it sorta trains your fingers i reckon... then learn the basic chords...learn where to strum.. then switching between chords smoothly... for me that's the way to go..
