I have a Vox AD30vt and I love it... wasn't too horribly priced... around 300 bucks if I remember right, and the sound is great... plus has all kinds of neat effects built in, and about 11 different amps built into it, as well as effects... and you can program, just about any combo into it.. from clean to just the absolute most nastiest distorion sounds you want.

This is called a valve reactor power amp, and is a tube/ analog, with some digital stuff mixed in, and can be had from ad15vt=23w all the way to the ad100vt @ 100 watts...
