I recently had a tech install a new pup in my SG. Well, now I want to put the stock Pickup that was in the SG in my Ibanez RG570. This guitar doesn't mean much to me, so I'm gonna wire in the pup myself.

Here's the problem I ran into.....
The original Ibanez pup has 2 wires and a metal shield around them. The pup that came out of the SG has only 1 wire and the metal shield. I got the wiring schematics for the Ibanez from their site, and it's showing how to connect it with the 2 wires. Can I even install the Gibson pup in the Ibanez? If so, advice is welcome...

I'm not determined to get this pup in the Ibanez, it's more or less experimenting...

Thanks...

I had the same problem of sorts. When I took my Series VII pups out of my Gibson I wanted to put them in my Epiphone LP. Unfortunatly I didn't get the help I needed either. The series VII's had two seperate shielded wires (to accomadate the coil tap switch) and the Epi pups had only one wire. So I don't know how to put the pups in the Epi. I think maybe it is something simple but I may never know.

Get a shematic for the SG wiring. The one wire deal should be easy. Wire shield grounded usually to the volume pot though some don't recomend it and then the lead wires to the selector switch is usually the basic wiring for humbuckers.

Cool, thanks man. I just printed out the schematics from the Gibson site.

NOW, the SG I have is the SG Gothic, which according to the Gibson site (under discontinued models), the stock pups are 490's. The schematics I printed off show that the 490's have Four Conductor wiring......while the pup that was removed is not a 4 conductor.

I'm just gonna try what you said, the shield to volume and the lead to the switch. I may just bypass the switch since I don't use the neck or middle pup's on the Ibanez anyway.......

I'm determined to get it right, so I'll be wiring away this weekend until I find something that works...

Thanks Ninja..I'll let you know what happens.......which may end up being that I throw the Ibanez across my back yard.

With four conductor not unlike my Dimebucker, the instructions told me to tape two of the wires together. I don't know if color schemes are universal but it was the Red and white taped together. Green to the volume pot and black to the selector switch. Here's a pic.

How many Volume and tone knobs do you have? Check out this link you should have no problems after this. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schematics.shtml

I think I'll use these schematics to coil tap my Dimebucker.

Yo, I got it working.....Just connected the 1 lead to the switch and the shield to ground, that's all it took.
