My string action is very high, as my guitar is a cheap strat copy, and I can't get it lower, but I've learned to live with it. Now I've been working on sweeping for a long time and some sweeps, even simple ones like:

-------15-20p15-----------------
----17----------17--------------
-17----------------17-----------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------

seem almost impossible. Can my string action be impeding my sweeping potential? Or am I just not tring hard enough.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely. Keep the string action as low as possible without it getting to the point where some frets are unplayable. Once you change your action, don't forget to set up the intonation again too.
If you can't set the action low enough, then it's time for a new guitar.

Ditto to what Schmange said however, Yngwie makes a point of playing with relatively high action (probably because he practiced a lot with classical guitars). But then again, we are not all Yngwie Malmsteen. I'd get a new guitar too if this was something you really were intent on playing.

It would work but I think Jacksons and Ibanez are more widely used.
