Yeah, if only I could write fugues like Bach! My compositional skills are, sadly, not at his level of uninhibited brilliance. Although I usually pass up the Baroque for the classical era, since Mozart is my favorite composer. Often a small argument between my girlfriend and I. She says Brahms is the greatest composer of all time. I say **** that, hahaha. Brahms is gorgeous, but overrated. Besides, Brahms did not show the mastery of every style available to him that Mozart did. Mozart's genius was complete. Brahms' was limited to the opening of his third symphony. That NCT diminished 7th chord...mmmm... I totally stole that for a string quartet, hahaha.

It's good to see a punk fan who appreciates a bit of power metal

Isn't it a pain in the ass naming all types of music. Everyone always thinks differently and has their own opinion on what type of music each band is

Well, Bach did manage to spell his name in "The Art of Fugue." Bb in German is written merely as "B" and Bnatural as "H" so the theme is Bb-A-C-Bnat, of B-A-C-H

Exactly! Take the whole "metalcore" scene, for example. There are so many idiotically-named subgenres - "thrashcore", "crustcore", "deathcore", "tech-core", even "calculus-core" - based on infitessimal formulaic differences that few listeners notice anyway. Why can't it just be HEAVY METAL?!

Same goes for jazz - when the genre tag on a Bunk Johnson mp3 file reads, "1940s Dixieland-Retro-era swing", you know things are getting out of hand.

why not just metal????is there a lite metal??? some purists just call it rock  but to describe it needs something more than "rock" imo. i would say the doobies are rock and maiden-priest are metal......staind-rock ...pantera,korn(even korn),tool, system of a down-metal....limp biskit, lincoln park, kid rock-gay.....dream theater, early rush,yes-progressive rock(i can't see doobies and dream theater in the "rock" category together)....punk,new wave all other categories are useless in the rock section imo.

I suppose you could describe most nu-metal as light metal or metal-lite lol

A lot of people say they listen to everything... but I really do listen to everything. I listen to everything from Classical straight through the hardest metal you can think of... and everything in between... but the genres i don't care for are punk, hip-hop (with exception to some early to mid 90's rappers ie Tupac, BIG, Snoop, Bone Thugs), most all pop music... I like some techno here and there but not something I listen to on my own. The ultimate in listening pleasure is Paganinis Caprices... Listen to them and find out who the first virtuoso ever was... its crazyness. Then try to learn how to play it on guitar... you better be good at sweep picking.

It stands to reason! I won't have it. I like Haggard. I don't like all country just bits and pieces and mostly the classic stuff.

My personal exception to the rule is some country from the outlaw movement era (eg. Kris Kristofferson), the lyrical content of which can sometimes be quite poetic. I find most everything else rather too cheesy.
