I have a really eclectic musical taste, about the only things I can't stand listening to are opera, nu metal and snail hop rap. My list is biger than Jolly's. One minute I'll be listening to Buffett...(WTF didja expect from a parrothead?) the next I have Rob Zombie working the platter, with Yanni on deck #2. Throw in lots of Corrs, Blondie, Brooks & Dunn...... Now all I have to do is learn all this on the guitar. :p

I listen to a lot of video game music and metal, but I do not narrow my tastes down to include just those types of music.

Jolly - you like J.S. Bach AND Cannibal Corpse?! LOL wow, your tastes encompass both the most dazzling and the most mind-numbing extremes of music - good for you! :)

Here are my faves, by genre:

CLASSICAL (composers and performers): Segovia (MASTER OF THE GUITAR!), Shostakovich, J.S. Bach, Mozart, Purcell, Wagner (the music - NOT the man :( ), Lang Lang, Beethoven.

ROCK: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Smashing Pumpkins, Powderfinger, AC/DC, Jet, Thirsty Merc (yeah, I'm Australian :o ), the Jimi Hendrix Experience, A Perfect Circle, Rage Against the Machine, ELP, Nickelback, Within Temptation, Green Day, Silverchair, Queen.

METAL: Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Megadeth, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Prong, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Mudvayne, System of a Down, Sonata Arctica, Hammerfall, Machine Head, A Perfect Murder.

POP: 3 Doors Down, Alicia Keys, Simon and Garfunkel, James Blunt, Franz Ferdinand, Paul Mac, Pete Murray.

BLUES: Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, the Yardbirds w/Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

JAZZ: Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Groove Collective, James Morrison, Duke Ellington, Jamiroquai (yes, some of their earlier stuff is acid jazz).

Smatterings of other genres, including Folk, Reggae, Dance, Hip-hop and Flamenco.
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

In that monster list (or this whole thread yet), I couldn't believe Leo Kottke wasn't mentioned. He's one of a kind and I'd say a true virtuoso. Perhaps he's included in the "among many others"?
