Far from the fastest!!! Rusty Cooley, George Bellas and Francesco Farerri to name but three players that are significantly faster (check them out if you don't believe it... those Guitar magazine polls are far from fact). However, Angelo is VERY fast and extremely accurate (I like him a lot BTW). As far as his tone goes, it's not great in that video but amazing on tracks like Time Traveller (horrible composition market with brief passages of high genius) and No Boundaries ( a shred classic).

But anyway, back to the topic of the thread... I find this guy to be good at arpeggios but find the compositions to be quite boring. Just a collection of arps following the bass line without any noticeable legatto or flashy runs (except for Viking Warrior). The tone is good for capturing the sweeps but it's not a nice lead tone and the backing midi sounds terrible. This guy certainly has promise if he can widen his bag of tricks though, good speed and accuracy. My favourte track was Viking Warrior because it displayed more than just arps. It's a well composed piece of pure shred. I think it would sound a lot better if it was recorded professionally and also had a real bass player and drummer. Pure, just wondering is this your music?

lol no its not, but i also did notice one of his influences was michael angelo. and i agree michael's not the fastest, o was just saying he was voted the fastest.

It would be interesting though if there was a proper competition to determine the worlds fastest guitarist by number of notes picked over a number of different techniques (alt picking, sweeps, legatto, tapping etc)....

The fastest guitarist at any givin time would more than likely be some 30 year old guy with no friends who is still living with his mother, hiding out in a bedroom with no windows, books or anything but a guitar to talk to... scary thought!

Seriously though, I reckon real pros wouldnt have enough time for the ammount of practice it would take to become the fastest. But anyway...

I'd just like to see how fast a human being can play out of interest, much the same as people want to see how fast a human can run. I agree that speed does not equate to quality, but speed is speed and it would still be interesting to know. It would certainly end a lot of pointless debates.

yea a competition would be boring and probably only mindless shredders who just play notes fast with now musicality in the way they play will be there. so it would probably just be a contest to see who can have the worst seisure on a guitar.

and also what you said about pros not having time, well god i must have said this like a million times to motivate some beginners, but joe satriani practices 15 hours a day.

Hmm.... I cudnt listen to that guy caz the page wasnt opening..!! Well abt shredding, even i was one of those guys who wanted to shred like hell, but failed. But actually shredding without meaning makes no sense. But at the same time u cant just shred musically, not possible (not even shawn lane).

But i wud surely love to see the fastest guitarist..!!! :)

In the case of playing guitar... speed is a novelty. I find it more interesting to watch Rusty Cooley play than to sit down and listen to one of his songs. Speed doesn't make you a better guitar player. Someone mentioned how its similar to how fast people can run... Being a fast runner helps you in more ways than one... stealing bases in baseball, getting up and down a basketball court, running for a touchdown, 100m sprint, running from the cops.... etc... In guitar it just means that you can play faster than most people. Speed is a novelty...

maybe at times, who knows. i go on guitar binges and purges usually; i will hardly play one day (or ill just **** around with some indie or folk stuff) and the next day i will practice like mad. i find it works better that way, gives you separation, it helps your brain learn better and more efficiently, and you also get a ****ing break to say "ok, today its ok that im hung over and only got 3 hours of sleep, im gonna take it easy on guitar for today" or whatever. i mean, its just impossible (not to mention depressinga nd pointless) to shred for 15 hours a day for the rest of your life. just put that into perspective.

this guy has extreme skill and somewhat evny that, but is quite a crappy musician. We as musicians want to make music that will please the listener and will take us on a journey. This guy plays too much of the same thing that we cant even take a breath between intervals, it gives us head ache when the entire song is just arpeggios sweeped with no time for anything else. The best part was in Shredder Symphony when he added the keyboards. And the reason was cause it was slower and more compredhendable. One thing I didnt like was the drum tracks. They were very monotonous. It was just DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM... There was no drum rolls between bars and made it very boring.

Yet I do applaud this guy's sweeps technique. Its very impressive. I just think if he were to tone things down, and then have a climax in his compostion with all-out shred, and then go back to more emotional music, it would make us want to click on the other songs after the first one is done.

BTW, I highly doubt Joe plays 15+ hours a day. Actually, no one plays 15 hours a day. ( I dont care what anyone else says, cause they are bragging). We sleep at least 8 hours of 24 which leaves 16. And I dont think he ever practiced 15 hours a day cause its almost impossible to practice more than 4 without wanting to standup, take a walk, and have a little snack.

man why the hell yall gettin pissed at me? i own a video of him and in the video there was an interview and he said out of his own freakin mouth that he practices 15 hours a day. im not making this stuff up.

at least 8 hours? nah, man. musicians are notorious insomniacs! i usually get 5 and with a cup of coffee or a ****load of tea, playing guitar all day is totally doable. just not that anyone could do that consistently...at least thats what i thought...who knows, he probably does play 15 hours every day. what a weirdo.

Hmm... Even is saw it in his interview (Guitar.com I think).. Satch said that he works for three month and collects enough money and then practices for the other three month around 15 hours a day...!!! Now in what format does he do that, on ly he knows..!!!! ;) :)

That was really contradicting seeing as Michael Angelo Batio is a stunt guitarist who can't write anything meaningful for his life...Speed Lives is alright, but the only parts I really like are pretty mch derived from Bach and Vivaldi. If you want to here real guitar, listen to Steve Vai, and ESPECIALLY watch him perform live, he and his band put on the best live performance in history for musicians, their creativity and phrasing will surprise and amaze you. Also check out Satriani, songs like Searching, etc... and John Petrucci ofcourse...but if all you are interested in is speed, then you can also check out Rusty Cooley, he isn't as meaningful of a player as the rest, but he is flawless with his technique and just plain godly at guitar, and his phrasing is amazing, he's really polyphonic.

For about 2 years, I practiced 8 hours a day everyday(I missed out on two summer breaks from school because of it), and I know people who would stay up 24 hours practicing, occasionally taking breaks to eat...but yes the next day they would sleep from 6 or 7 am til about 2pm, then start again. I've done it...and I know it is possible to practice that much in one day.
