after many years I am finally going to purchase my first guitar & try to learn. any suggestions for a good, reasonably priced acoustic or package? I've looked at a Jasmine S35 and Fender DG-8S, both about $100. thanks .......
BTW my name is Dean, I'm from Forney, TX but temporarily up in Northern Virginia.

I've always been partial to Yamaha myself.
As long as you stick with the well known names you should be ok.
I'd stay away from packages though... or anything that a salesperson 'strongly' suggests.

There are allot of really great guitars out there. You usually don't go wrong with a fender. I would say the big thing to keep an eye on if you are just begining is the action on whatever you get, in my experience it's the f chord that really bites alot of people, and usually makes them want to give up guitar and pick up the bagpipes instead. What ever you get; stick with it my friend. I have gotten rid of two wives and kept 7 guitars.

thanks much -- after visiting several shops, talking to "experts", and trying a few models, I am leaning toward a Yamaha at this time.

well I got a Yamaha yesterday and started down the path of learning how to play ... gonna be fun I can already tell. And I am in Northern Virginia away from my family in Texas so I'll have plenty of time the next 3-4 months. :D
