Hi
I'm still very much a beginner (been playing again only 9 months).

I've been trying to follow some of Doug Fearman's Easy and Intermediate Blues lessons which I really enjoy...but whilst I can play some of the stuff it never really 'sounds' as good. Ok...I know a lot of it's I just don't have the same skill and timing etc But also I just can't seem to get the same 'sound'.

Any tips for amp/guitar set up to achieve a similar sound? Especially, for example, the sound on his 'Boogie' lessons.

I'm playing an Epiphone '56 Gold Top through a VOX AD30VT amp. I have no effects pedals or anything...just the effects built into the amp.

Many thanks and Happy New Year

Hmm...First try saying "tone" instead of "sound". Some people in here will look at you funny :D . Usually I dial in a nice bluesy sound with my lowest gain channel that isn't clean. (I have a modeling amp so it's different for me.) Set the gain kinda low 2-4. I use my neck pup at a decent volume 6-10 then roll back the tone knob to anywhere from 0-3. With what you got you could crank the clean channel until it distorts. Playing a tube amp loud is a must. That's when they sound thier best. With that axe and that amp you should be able to get some great blues tones. ;)

Have you tried asking him directly?
His email address should be on his lesson page.
