would it be worth buying a pod to go with my cheap gear (cheap strat copy n 15w marshall amp) rather than buying loads of effects pedels? iv not got lots of money to spend on powerfull amps and expensive guitars so would it help with tone ond getting better sounds from my gear?

The POD 2.0 is a great piece of gear. If you only want it for effects, I would look elswhere. Do a search for POD, and you'll find a bunch of threads with lots of information. Hopefully you'll find some useful info.
