i was told by one of my best mate that i should keep my electric guitar in the bag all the time to avoid rust...is this true? that electric guitars are really prone to rust, at the chromed areas?

Well...never heard that one before.
I've never kept any of my guitars in the case and all I get is a bit of dust on them.
It's better to keep the guitar out where you can get at it cause you're more likely to pick it up and play it if you don't have to go through the hassle of taking it out of the case every time.

however, if your area is wet/humid. you better put it in the case. i know for my country the air contains high percentage of water vapour.. unlike dry climates.

are you sure he isnt only talking about the strings? Cause I doubt stuff like bridges and tuners get rusty

Hah! Check out the Fender 'relic' stuff!
If the humidity is high, a case won't keep it from rusting, but it will reduce the amount of bown scum deposited on it from the cigarette smoke. Yuuuuckkk! :p

Quit smoking.
Also, putting your axe in a case means you'll practice/play less.
Out of sight = out of mind.

lol! well the thing is that im still waiting for an amp...ive yet to get it... im too broke for the moment but my sis promised to get me one sometime next month or so...so it shudn really matter...im just worried as i was told they rust easily that's why...if it really shudn be a problem then i will leave it alone... my acoustic seems to be fine... i got it a couple of months ago and i just leave it in sight... no rust yet... probably because it doesnt have as much steel as an electric...oh and i doubt i can quit smoking anytime soon... :p

Come to america after they pass the new Cig Tax, and I bet paying $7.00 a pack will make you quit.

It may be a little late to throw my 2 cents in on this one... but oh well...
Strings rust for various reasons... but consistent playing actually helps strings longevity in the rust department... obviously they will break faster the more time they're bent and so forht... But playing them consistently will keep the oils from your fingers from settling on the strings and causing the early forms of rust which are oxidation and pitting. Also, you might want to get a string lubricant like fast fret or something similar. They come in sticks and sprays just pick whichever one you would like. Treating your strings with this will wipe away any oils that are left behind from playing... and put a barrier of non corrosive oils between the strings and the ambient air. Making strings last longer, making them play faster, and it also keeps your fretboard somewhat cleaner...
